OCLF relies on the media – both in Ghana and in Canada – to spread the news. This includes features on radio and television, in newspapers and magazines. This often results in additional donations which allow us to extend our outreach to other deserving African communities without incurring costs.
For example, in 1995, The Globe and Mail newspaper of Toronto, Canada, published an article by Anthony Jenkins. This brought in an overwhelming response; many of our donors today can be traced to that article.
Media exposure in Ghana also has far reaching effects and it gives important credibility to the work we do. Today’s Woman, a Saturday morning television show, interviewed Kathy and showed footage of one of the libraries. Viewers phoned in at the end of the show. Some said they benefitted from our libraries as children and others offered their services as volunteers.
