Sharing the Joy of Reading with an African Child

Volunteer in Ghana

Leila Osman and Stephi Bell, two volunteers from Ottawa, initiate recorder lessons with library members

OCLF welcomes volunteers to help in our libraries. Their skills and experience bring important additions to our programs. We place volunteers in five libraries in Accra, Ghana’s bustling capital, and two outside of Accra. We try our best to secure placements by considering volunteer preferences and available accommodation.

OCLF libraries are all busy places with many activities besides reading. The best volunteers have experience with children and they come with ideas – crafts, music, sports – to share with library members. Experience with teaching ESL is also an asset.
